Desiring to provide the faithful of the Diocese of Boise with a designated place of pilgrimage during the Year of Saint Francis and to foster devotion to Our Lord in the Most Holy Eucharist through the witness and ministry of the Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist; Therefore, by virtue of my office as Bishop of Boise and in accord with the norms of canon law, I hereby decree the following:

The Resurrection reminds us that the Church is not called simply to maintain what already exists. Rather, we are sent into the world with a mission. Before ascending to the Father, the risen Christ entrusted His disciples with a clear command: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations.” This command remains at the heart of the Church’s life today. As I have traveled through our diocese over the years, it is clear to me how important it is for people of faith to seek the needed balance between mind, body and spirit. Our mental health is crucial for our overall wellbeing as persons made in the image and likeness of God.

Answering the call is more than receiving the Sacraments. “It is about becoming saints,” he said. “The journey ahead — especially these coming weeks of Lent will not simply be about learning more prayers or memorizing teachings. It will be about conversion, about allowing Christ to examine your heart. It is about trust and surrender.”

“Like each of us, they don’t see the full picture of where everything is going. It is a journey of trust; trust in Jesus who is directing because He sees the beginning, the end and the everything in-between of our lives.” To follow Jesus as our leader is an act of faithfulness and obedience, he said. “Rowers don’t stop to ask, ‘Why?’ every time directions are given. Trust means obeying, even when we don’t understand.”

“We need to be courageous in spreading the Good News of our Lord’s agape love for others, by our words and our actions,” Bishop Peter continued. “If we do so, abortion will be no more.”
