For a number of years, I have been blessed to say Mass at our area parishes on a regular basis. At Bishop Kelly, we call these “Partnership Masses,” and the purpose of them is for me to help a parish community understand that in order for us to nurture and grow the Catholic Church, we need the partnership of families, parishes and schools, all working together.
These Masses have been a wonderful way for me to bring the great things that happen every day at Bishop Kelly to our local parish communities.
This year, our student population has over 90 kids who will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation over the coming weeks of the Easter Season. In addition, there are three young women who are joining the Church at the Easter Vigil.
We recognized and blessed these young people at our all-school Mass on April 3, and as we called nearly 100 students out of the bleachers to assemble in front of the altar for their special blessing, the rest of our school erupted in support and applause for them.
This beautiful picture of so many young people taking public steps forward in their Catholic faith fills my heart with joy and gratitude, and I am so very blessed that the Holy Spirit (and my Jesuit Superior) has called me to put my priesthood at the service of Bishop Kelly.
I speak for the whole school when I say that we are committed to growing the relationship of family, parish and school to build the Church in this Diocese!
May our families, parishes and schools all be places where faith can grow throughout our lives, and may the Blessed Mother be our special patron, and show us what true faith in her Son looks like.
Blessed and Holy Easter!
