Election Results: Idaho voters say ‘No!’ to Proposition 1

Voters preserved Idaho’s robust pro-life laws Tuesday, shooting down a ballot initiative pro-life advocates said would have obliterated decades of work protecting the unborn.
The Associated Press called Proposition 1 defeated at 12:35 a.m. MST Wednesday, Nov. 4, according to the Idaho Capital Sun.
Unofficial results as of Wednesday afternoon showed 55.9% (404,827 votes) opposed and 44.1% (318,822 votes) in favor of Prop. 1. Under Idaho law, the State Board of Canvassers must complete its statewide canvass by Nov. 24, three weeks after the election.
Prop. 1 became the focus of intense campaigning by pro-life and abortion-rights groups. Since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022, more than a fifth of U.S. states have approved ballot measures protecting abortion rights, according to a Nov. 4 Associated Press report.
Editor’s note: Look for a story in a future issue of the Idaho Catholic Register that will cover the reactions of Idaho pro-life groups to Prop. 1’s defeat and what lies ahead in the battle to defend the unborn.
